RGStudio360 Presents: Monstrously Awesome and Lil' Monster...

I started out by designing the little monster using the digi images.  After that, I printed and cut the images and brought a ton to school with me.  My plan was to have a few of my kinderpeeps color these images when they had their morning choice time.  I let them take their's home and asked if they would color me one too for a special project I'm making.  

When I got home, I attached these little monsters to some toothpicks and set them aside to work on some treat containers.  I wanted a popcorn-style treat container but in a mini version so I went to work creating a design on my Silhouette Cameo software.  When that was done, I pressed "cut" and had the containers in a flash.  I cut the containers out using some fun and festive cardstock colors:  Sweet Banana (for the larger sized container), Tangy Orange and Sweet Pink.  

Next, I scored and folded the template and used double sided liner tape to secure the box.  Next, I printed the sentiment from the Lil' Monster set and attached them to a toothpick.  

Peek-a-boo!  I see you!  I filled the containers with a special handmade mix of caramelized marshmallow treats and crackers and then added some popcorn.  The popcorn has a very tart and tasty drizzle of flavored sugar.  How did I make it flavored and blue?  Well, I used some of a packaage of Blueberry Kool-aid mix!  

 I took a few photos so you could see the scale of each individual treat container.  Since this treat is pretty sugary, I wanted to create a tiny treat-perfectly sized for my kinderpeeps for Valentine's Day!

This popcorn mix was an experiment and a small batch so I didn't measure.  I just placed in a pan and started heating it up.  

Monster Munch Recipe:

Fresh popped popcorn and Soup crackers

Sugar Drizzle:  

sugar

butter (1 tbsp)

a little water

some of the powder in a Kool Aid package (I used Blueberry)

Stir continuously while boiling and cook to hard ball stage.

Place popcorn onto a silicone mat and drizzle hot sugar mixutre over it.  Let cool and place in an airtight container.  

Caramelized Sugar for crackers:  

sugar

butter (1 tbsp)

a little water

Cook to caramelized hard ball stage.

Place crackers onto a silicone mat and drizzle hot sugar mixutre over it.  Let cool and place in an airtight container.  

Pour remaining caramelized sugar onto silicone mat and place small marshmallows and sprinkles onto the "pool of sugar".

RGStudio360 Presents: Monstrously Awesome and Lil' Monster

I started out by working on the background.  To create it, I pulled out my Gelli Plate and applied some stripes of ivory acrylic paint and added some drops of Denim Distress Oxide ink in a linear fashion so I could spread it horizontally across the page with a paint brush.  I placed my cardstock over the panel and lifted the ink.  Then I took some leftovers from a "button" project I created on my Silhouette cameo and used that as a stencil for my inked panel.  I brushed more acrylic paint over that to allow for a hint of circle pattern over the inked panel. 

After creating the background, I splattered it with ivory paint and the denim Distress ink and set it aside to dry.  Then I started coloring the Monster.  It is so fun creating a unique monster using all the parts and pieces in this Monstrously Awesome set!  I settled on this adorable furry monster and got to work printing, cutting out and coloring the image.  

I used the following Copic Colors to color this image:  

B01, 52, 60; BG13, BG45;  C-1, 3; YR02, 16, 61; R05

To finish the card off, I punched a few circles using my 3/4 inch Marvy circle punch then attached the monster with foam squares.  I applied the sentiment (that was touched up with Copics) from the Lil' Monster sentiment set and added a little teal bow/button embellishment.  I mounted it onto a base of Nectar Stone cardstock.

So now, let's get on to the deets about my project!  I created some Monster Pops that packs a big punch (and a TON OF SUGAR)!  I started out by creating the monster image (in digital form).  It was fun mixing and matching all the parts and I finally decided on this design.  I printed it out twice and colored with Copic markers.  

 I wanted to create a monstrous look so I kept my Copics nice and juicy and blended them to allow the colors to bleed into each other. 

I coordinated my colors with a mixed berry sprinkle mix I purchased from Sprinkle Pop.  I love the variety of sprinkles (including the metallic covered spaghetti)! 

To create the yummy treat, I used some cream cheese frosting to attach a marshmallow to a piece of brittle (tastes like roasted marshmallows) from my mom,  then I stuck a festive paper straw into the marshmallow.  After that, I applied more frosting (as glue) and added some sprinkles.  Since the monster image is made with non-edible parts and marker ink, I just balanced the monster on top of the treat so it could easily be removed before eating...YES, I ate my treat after the photos were taken.  MMMMMM...Good!
