Just like pretty printed paper, it's VERY difficult to cover up this type of die...I just want to see the WHOLE design! I decided to emboss the image instead of cover it up!
After embossing the panel, I mounted it onto some dark burgundy cardstock and discovered the card was matching one of my favorite mugs! (@brookemillecchia_ceramics on Instagram). I grabbed it off my cup shelf so I could use it in my photos! Love when that happens! LOL
After adding it to the burgundy panel, I attached a pretty piece of chocolate satin ribbon, some golden threads, Hemptique chocolate twine and some golden ric-rac...then topped it off with a heart shaped veneer!
I'm also sharing this fun card created using the Zen Coffee 1 Cover Plate Die. I really love the collection of coffee images mixed with loops/swirls/leaves and dots...It's like the images are just floating along on a wave of Coffee! I wanted to keep the cuts and the frame together so after watercoloring a panel using Nuvo Shimmer Powders, I cut the panel and glued it directly onto a card base. So easy, peasy!
After gluing it to my card base, I stamped the sentiment "Fall For You" using VersaClair ink. I think the sentiment works perfectly with the falling coffee cutplate, don't you?! After mounting it onto some fun colored cardstock, I added a little piece of gray ribbon and mounted the sentiment onto the panel with foam squares. To finish it off, I added a few metallic pearls that help make the silvery shimmer pop on the card.
Thanks so much for hopping along with us today! Please hop on over to Katie's blog to check out her gorgeous creation and GOOD LUCK!

Kerry Urbatch (That's ME!)
Fabulous embossed look. I tried that, but my paper ripped :(
ReplyDeleteThank you Vicki! Keep trying- just modify the sandwich a bit, add some shims and it'll eventually work (if you have some good paper too).
DeleteHi Kerry,
ReplyDeleteYou really captured cream, coffee, and love in your first card. I love the watercoloring on the second panel, and the sentiment is such fun. I would love to know if/how embossing like this can be done on a Big Shot.
Thanks for the inspiration and have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Christine! I was trying to capture that cream in my coffee effect! Glad you noticed. I had to modify my sandwich I removed a plate and added a stack of three paper shims) in my Platinum to be able to accommodate the cutplate die and the embossing mat without tearing or cutting the paper- so I'm positive with a little experimentation, you can do the same with the Big Shot.
DeleteKerry, it's always so fun to see two completely different styles using the same products. Both of your cards are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! The colorful one uses the other cutplate that has white space along the side so I felt a bit more comfortable "covering up" a little piece of that one with the sentiment versus the new cutplate that had my nerves all frazzled about covering it up! 😜.
DeleteWOW! Love the embossed cover plate card! So elegant and beautiful. The second card is pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It's a great die and I didn't want to cover it up! LOL
DeleteLove how different these cards are. The first is so very elegant with the rich colors
ReplyDeleteadded via the ribbon and burgundy mat. Love the details. And love the pretty & happy
colors all over on the 2nd.
Thank you. I felt a bit safer doing the second card as it has the diecut portion only on one side.. I just couldn't bear to cover the first one up and wanted to do something uncommon with it so I though embossing it would do the trick!
DeleteLovely card. I'm going to try the embossing. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! Give it a go! You may need to adjust your sandwich a bit to get it to emboss perfectly but keep trying and it will come out perfectly! :)
DeleteGorgeous cards and I especially loved the embossed look using that die.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Verna.

Thanks Mary. I'm a bit of an eclectic stamper--- I'm glad this post shows that. I tend to go with it and whatever ends up when I think I'm finished, is what it is! This time- two totally different color palates and "feeeeeels". ha ha.
DeleteSuch an elegant card with the coffee plate
ReplyDeleteand the other so colorful. Both totally different.
Great work, Kerry.

DeleteBoth your cards are amazing!! I cannot wait to try the embossed technique you used on the first card!! TFS!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Try it! I used the rubber mat, a shim of one card base, one piece of cardstock and one envelope instead of my cutting plates. Worked perfectly!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kel. If you were to meet me, you would know that there isn't an ounce of elegance in me so it's funny that my cards can show that. BAHAHA
DeleteKerry, I love both designs a lot. Each of them is fabulous in different ways. Thanks for the inspirations!

ReplyDeleteThanks very much Marsha. I'm not an elegant kind of person in the least so the "elegance" must have dropped from the heavens. HA HA.
