I don't play the piano...but I can make a piano hinge book!

Here's a great technique you might want to try! I'll be sharing this technique on the Shack website all next week and you get a sneak peek this weekend! If you have any questions or need clarification, post a message and I'd be happy to help...
Rubber stamps from TAC, Ink: Palette Hybrid, Papers: Bazzill
Piano Hinge Book Necessary Supplies

3 plain white or cream cardstock 8 1/2x11
1 colored or patterned cardstock 8 1/2x11
4 bamboo Skewers
2- 17 inch lengths of waxed thread or dental floss
Desired embellishment fibers

Glue Adhesive
Table Top Paper Cutter
Ruler
Bone Folder
Scissors or Mat Knife
Pencil
Ink
Rubber Stamps

Step 1: Cut all cardstock in half (5 ½ x 8 ½ size). You should have 8 pieces total.
Step 2: Fold all cardstock in half to make A2 sized cards (folded size 5 ½ x 4 ¼ ).
Step 3: Open each page and measure/mark a line ¼ inch from fold mark on each side.
Step 4: Using ruler and bone folder (or scoring tool on paper cutter), Make score marks along three horizontal lines. Crease each fold to produce a “mountain peak” fold.
Step 5: Measure and mark ½ inch increments on line.
Step 6: Use scissors or Mat Knife to cut each perpendicular line.
Step 7: Fold each page in half then fold each section with v (valley fold), p (peak folds)
Fold pages using these fold guidelines:

Colored/patterned paper cover: v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v
Page 1: p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p
Page 2: v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v
Page 3: p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p
Page 4: v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v
Page 5: p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p
Page 6: v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v
Colored/patterned paper back: p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p, v, p

Stamp your inner pages as desired or leave blank.

Step 8: Glue each page to create a desired pocket with openings on top or at the side. Cover and Back page should have no pockets.
Step 9: Arrange pages in a stack to alternate the peak and valley folds.
Step 10: Take cover and page 1 and thread bamboo skewer through each peak. Do the same with pages 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and back. You should now have 4 paired pages.
Step 11: Stack pages together. Using waxed floss, weave thread over and under pulling firmly to align pages. Make a knot when you reach the end. Do this to the other end of the book as well. Add a tad of glue to the ends of the thread and stick it to the stick. This will help keep it in place for years to come.

Step 12: Weave desired coordinating fibers to the sticks and tie to secure. Cut excess bamboo skewer length off.
Embellish your book as desired. Add page inserts, photos, journaling and whatever else you fancy!

  4. You really should be recruited by one of the big crafting companies as a rep/demonstrator or something. They are missing out on quite a talent! Beautiful work! And excellent presentation of the step-by-step process! K
